A Powerful Investment: To discuss and integrate pathways to self-discovery, ultimately uncovering the best version of you. To help you learn tools and techniques to use long after the workshop is over. These methods become life skills, much like learning to ride a bike. Once you’ve got it, you are confident in how to maneuver the journey. It begins one day at a time.
Summer’s spell has cast its net over me. I am beyond excited to announce my first-ever couple’s retreat in the most magical place I can imagine: Tepoztlan, Mexico.
I am told there is an energy vortex here that makes colors appear brighter, softens sounds, and creates a healing experience simply by being in this remarkable place. This retreat aims to awaken your spirit to Tepoztlan’s magic, experience the healing effects of relaxation, and reconnect with yourself and your partner.
Tepoztlan, Mexico, is a mystical town known for its healing and sacred energy. Our retreat space sits on six acres of utopian gardens with a sunken grass tennis court, equestrian stables, walking trails, resort-style pool, and a labyrinth vegetable garden.
Why do I love offering workshops so much?

What to Expect?
Following are answers to some of the most common questions…
What is the weather like in June in Santa Fe?
Beautiful. The average temperature hovers around 79 degrees F for a high and dips into the low 60’s at night. Perfect weather to sleep with your windows open. June is a dry month, so rain is rare and humidity is low. We’d recommend packing light, casual and bring layers.

We were in Mexico last week facilitating our Soul Space Retreat at the magical Belmond Resort, Maroma.
Over the course of a few days we spent time getting in touch with our soul, the
part of us that lives deep within.
You are in a new environment, there are some familiar faces but mostly new. You are not really sure what to expect but something in your belly tells you it feels like you are in the right place at the right time. You are supported.
You sit down on your yoga mat. There is a kind smile coming from the mat next to yours. You think how nice it is to have a new friend in this stranger.
Life as you know it—the flurry of busyness, the constant spin-cycle and repeat. What if, family work and all responsibilities are left behind? There is an opening, much like cracking open a window on a beautiful day. In this new free void, wide open space is brought forward from a sense of no worry and no giving to everyone else first, she came back to her own power and remembered who she was.

Allie nudged me (to what we refer to) as to ‘Kondo’ the space. Marie Kondo’s The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up is a guide we love. Over the past few months, Allie had focused on clearing the clutter from her apartment and was fresh with the ‘what sparks joy mindset’.
I believe affirmations go hand-in-hand with ‘clear the clutter’ concept. To use an affirmation is about getting organized, just instead of kitchen counters, it’s with our words and intentions— it’s about saying more with less. An affirmation is a short, clear, positive statement that creates clarity, forms intention, and guides you. These short positive statements asks you to cut through the clutter of your life and focus your mind on one essential truth at a time.
Who couldn’t use a few moments of peace and calm right now? Indulge yourself in 15-20 minutes to color your way into a meditation.
Do you long for a space in your home (and your soul) that is quiet, peaceful and and sacred? How do you create a space WITHIN YOU, and your home that nurtures your soul?
I consider myself a generally healthy and happy person. I eat well, exercise, meditate, sleep and feel supported by my relationships. I also suffer with chronic eczema. This skin rash can present itself as a small irritation, or can escalate into a raw, heat-inflamed, intensely uncomfortable whole body rash.

how to write
As many of you know, I love to follow the moon cycles. In my daily journal, I record where the moon is in its monthly rotation. When I follow the cycles, I can be more aware of a new Moon (begin again), waxing Moon (building energies), full Moon (surf the wave), or waning Moon (revision energies), and also be more compassionate with myself and others during high-intensity lunar periods, such as a full Moon or eclipses.
I believe everyone has a story to tell. There are lots of reasons to want to write a book
Have you ever felt inspired to write your memoir, perhaps captured ( or to be) in your journal or diary’s reflections? Is there something you feel compelled to share— stories to leave with your family as a legacy or for a reader to benefit from your experience?
For me, it was an outpouring. To transcribe my life’s experiences. To write about the stress as my role as an NICU nurse and then as a mother of a sick child.
Thank you. I write for you—and for myself as well.
It’s a passion and a pleasure to transcribe words onto a page. It often feels as if I am not the writer, but merely a scribe taking dictation, scribbling as quickly as my pen will move across the page, trying to capture the message as it arrives.
For me, a good road trip involves a well-thought-out picnic basket. I like it to be filled with thermoses of strong coffee and hibiscus tea, to include breakfast tacos, sandwiches, and snacks to last the journey.
The wildlife, rivers, and forests have a beautiful rhythm, which doesn't ask for advice or require anyone's approval. It is not concerned with anything except its natural ebb and flow. It's comforting to be its guest in this place.
When I was ten years old, my dad took a sabbatical (and brought the whole family with him) to Johannesburg, South Africa.
After all of these years I can still recall certain vivid memories of that time. Decades before apartheid, in 1971 on a professor’s salary, our family of seven lived in Joburg. We had a modest white stucco house surrounded with a small fresh green lawn, protected by big white wall wrapping around us that made me feel safe.

What if you join my mom and I? Would you like to create an intention to dedicate 15 minutes, a small portion of your day (or a few days of the week) to a writing practice? I started to drink coffee at seventeen years old. As a high school senior, I took a zero-hour college course at Kansas State University. Waking up early, my dad and I shared a cup of coffee before we headed to campus, where he taught and I attended my first college class.
Coffee’s morning ritual has been in my life for 45 years! I endeavor to write about subjects I am passionate about and feel may also spread positive information.
Encouraging pen to paper, conceptual dreaming editors, meticulous detail line editors and publishing as a bottom-line business kind of guides. For the past 8 days, a forest fire has been burning not too far from our home. Currently the Rio en Medio Fire has spread to 2,700 acres and is 18% contained. Dry conifer and ponderosa pine mixed with steep rugged terrain add to the complexity of efforts to control the fire. National Guard Blackhawk helicopters and 230 firefighters are strategically battling the blaze.

HOW HARD CAN IT BE?
I sit in the endodontics office filling out the paper work. I feel a shaky sense of maybe I should just get-up-and-leave kind of feeling wash over me. Then I hear my self say, “how hard can this be? It can’t hurt that bad as long as the anesthetic works.”
I have a morning ritual of drinking coffee, reading a couple of chosen articles from the newspaper, and if I’m lucky, time to journal a few pages. This morning was one of those mornings. I probably came into this habit through observing my dad for so many years. He was an academic who was a fierce reader. Today is the anniversary of the day he went to heaven. And today, I feel he gave me a gift from one of his favorite newspapers to read, the Wall Street Journal.
It was lots of fun doing this interview for one of my favorite magazines, Houston Family Magazine. I am excited to be launching my first article for a new monthly column in November. Stay tuned.

The other replied, “Why, of course. There has to be something after delivery.

I like to think of myself as productive. At the end of the day it feels good to reflect back and feel accomplished. But this satisfaction is very different than feeling the need to be in constant movement- constantly checking things off a list. The difference with living in a perpetual state of “doing” leaves us with that nauseating “I can’t do it all” feeling.

In 2003, my family returned to the United States after living abroad in England for fifteen years. Luckily, a precautionary “emergency” inhaler quickly dilated the bronchi in his lungs, and he recovered.

This painting above resonates with me as both soft and powerful. While I painted, I thought that creating a pleasing color palette was my end goal. However, as often happens, I felt that everything wasn’t coming together, so I took a break to pull some weeds in the garden. Later that afternoon, I returned and added a few more strokes to soften the piece, and there you have it. I feel this painting expresses that same softness and strength I can find within myself.
Intentional art. Through mediums of encaustic wax and gouache watercolor, my intention is for art to create an emotion such as balance, joy, and healing.
Art can take us to a transcendent place. Now offered as original pieces or premium giclée prints, designed to align with intention and to fit your space and budget.
Giclee, pronounced “zhee-clay” is a French term meaning “to spray”, referring to how an inkjet printer works.
It begins with someone who specializes in this process. The most exciting piece of this giclee technique is that you can have a piece of art that fits your space and your budget.
Try this now….
Find a space in your home that feels it needs a lift, a new vibration that resonates with a feeling you want to create.
Now IMAGINE, what would you write in an affirmation to bring your awareness to that feeling every time you looked at the painting.
Artwork is available for purchase as an original or giclee print. There are so many options. Affordable art on archival paper or canvas wrapped panels in shapes and sizes customized for your intentional space.
My friend Jodie King (check out her inspirational art) met to chat about art in general.
When my mind is calm and filled with faith, I can see solutions more clearly, and in this space choose the best one.
Painting is a wonderful creative outlet. The real value of art is not the art itself but the meaning it holds for us. An image can spark an emotion that moves us, and that emotional connection is its true value.
Sacred Geometry, Vesica Picis, an etheric bridge between the union of opposites, the physical and spiritual, the masculine and feminine, and perhaps Heaven and Earth?
For me, it’s an exciting concept to ponder, a link to the hidden order of our world and the interconnectedness of all things channeled into art.
I am intrigued with sacred space.
To find harmony and order in a space makes me feel good and brings me a sense of well-being. This interest lead me to explore sacred geometry, which suggests that our world has a divine order in geometric patterns and mathematical ratios found in nature, music and light.
I believe these harmonious patterns create a vibrational pull of energy that connects us all, and a new appreciation of the world we share.
I went to Golden, Colorado last weekend. To recall the feeling as we drove up from Santa Fe is like trying to create the definition of autumn— a magical mix of crisp cool mountain air, brilliant golden fields of aspens nestled against a backdrop of deep purple mountains with ethereal white peaks. For me, the scenery created a soulful vibe that fall always brings. To take time and step out of my day-to-day coupled with the excitement of learning a new technique (from the comfort of an old friend) was a tonic to soothe my soul.
A brand new collection of gouache watercolor paintings.
People are drawn to authenticity– it is a snapshot of the best part of you. Artwork is a muse. Gouache watercolor paintings are an expression of inner work.

It is said it takes 10,000 hours to become a master at something. For the past 27 years I have been meditating almost every day, with long retreats as well, so if I do the math that puts me at 10,000 hours plus of meditation experience.
I am passionate about meditation and it’s beautiful repercussions of feeling more peace, clarity and confidence. Honestly, I feel this world will be a better place as more people learn how to meditate.

Many religions use the moon cycle to set their yearly calendars. This weekend’s full moon brings a surge of energy and reminds us of spring, new beginnings, rebirth–the opportunity to contemplate, “if I was able to die and be re-born, how would I change and do it different?”
Spring brings excitement and wonder. New blooms, fresh dreams. Busy with plans and projects. Within this surge of new energy, we call on Mother Nature to keep us connected and grounded.

We choose what influences us and what we engage with daily—the routines and rituals, the music we listen to, the words we read, and the company we keep. We are all alchemists, creating our life experiences. Today unfolds in relation to where we place our attention and energy.

When your being blossoms and opens all its petals and releases its beautiful fragrance.
I firmly believe our outer self undoubtedly reflects on our inner state of being. When I feel balanced and whole, you can see it in the brightness of my eyes, the clarity of my choices, and the circumstances in life.
Autumn is always a beautiful season of reflection, and with Thanksgiving approaching, join me in focusing on gratitude and balance in life. Re-visiting the tagline on my website’s home page above feels like a good check-in, a satisfying refresher.
Do you remember the days when we didn’t have a cell phone? When Ron and I were out to dinner I left the restaurant’s telephone number with the babysitter in case of an emergency. These days I carry my cell phone with me most of the day. Often distracted by the ding of a text coming through, and 99% of the time it’s not urgent.
I feel now more than ever how essential it is to step back each day and see myself, and my relationship to others from another perspective, a different view— a wider lens.
Through a new vision to see and FEEL more peace, compassion and joy.

Last night while we slept the heavy rain turned to champagne snow flakes. We woke up to winter.
We are all made up of equally opposite traits. We laugh and cry. We are capable of love and hate. When we learn to acknowledge the complementary opposites of our self, in our wholeness, we are peacefully free.
Learn the alchemy true human beings know. The moment you accept what troubles you’ve been given, the door will open.
Today, hug a tree.
how to create sacred space
A workshop with Elizabeth is a session of growth, interesting perspectives, and most of all joy. When the workshop is over, I feel at peace, ready to take on my day, and like I just shared a cup of tea with a dear friend— Susan
Today, December 21, 2025, is our winter solstice, a time when the sun appears to pause before reversing direction.
I invite you to join me and take a moment to pause today. Allow yourself to feel the quiet presence of love and the stillness behind the noise.
Sacred Space. In our current home, the land and the oak groves spoke to me. I knew the house had potential. While the land had been neglected, it felt such a privilege to be the new steward and offer it some much needed and deserved love and attention. After an eighteen month remodel, our small ranch outside of Austin finally feels like home. This iconic tree keeps my feet on the ground while simultaneously inspiring me to look within and connect to a higher force.
Last week I spoke to a savvy group of engaging and intelligent women at the Mommie Series in Houston. I talked about SACRED SPACE.
I can feel the change. The last few weeks of this sweet summer are shifting. Wearing a sweater in the morning and lighting a fire to warm the chilly evenings, signals the whispers of autumn are approaching.
This summer I tended to my soul. For the first time in a long time, I took a pause.
I set an intention to create a summer dedicated to do exactly what I felt like doing. An experiment. What could happen? These past summer days, I mostly longed to fill my time outdoors— by myself, or with family and friends.
Today , Dec 21, 2024 is our winter solstice, when the sun seems to pause before reversing direction. Solstice in Latin ‘sun, stands still.’ It is a wonderful time to stop and like the sun, take a pause (even just for a moment), take a few deep breaths and find your center.

How I came to know yoga. Try a home yoga practice to bring peace and serenity into your day.
Home, is where you are most fully yourself— the place you belong.
I believe our home’s embody how we live and see ourselves. A reflection of what’s important to us.
Take a moment to reflect about your home. Does your space hold what’s important to you? What is given priority in your home?
As long as I can remember people refer to me ( and I consider myself) a home body. I love to be at home.
Often times it’s fun to share your truewellbeing. The soul space of you. The part of you that makes you special, that’s always there even if you don’t acknowledge it or believe it. I am going to share with you, and I hope that you will share some of ‘your truewellbeing’ in the comments too.
I am a 59 year old woman— mom to three (now all grown up) children, a wife, a dog and horse lover who is happiest when I am with my family, a horse and in nature.
Join me in finding sacredness, begin to weave the thread of joy, and the divine will pull the thread. Here is my latest offering. Language of the Soul 52 Affirmations to Guide You
n preparation for our recent retreat, I pulled from a large stack of journals. The entry I found happened to be from 2012, a reflection from my 50th year. I opened to a page about one of the most memorable times I could recall during my fifty years of living. Eleven through sixteen years of age. I wrote that during this time I felt a deep connection to nature and a horse. The combination of the two allowed me to feel genuine happiness and freedom.
We all have an inner compass that guides us. Some may call it our “gut feeling.” I want to teach you three simple techniques that will help you tap into your intuitive power.
I want to give readers a chance to get to know me. To feel as if we were sitting together outside on my patio with a cup of tea, talking about our lives. It is these kinds of conversations that let us get a deeper understanding of one another, of what makes us who we are. I want to show you what I do and why I love it.
Practice yoga with your child. A beautiful way to spend quality time together in this short and easy to follow yoga sequence.
Allie came to know yoga at three years of age. She is now all grown up—a certified yoga instructor and a Pacifica graduate licensed psychotherapist.

The Sangre de Cristo Mountains (In Spanish translates to the “Blood of Christ”) —are just behind our home. This mountain range is the southernmost subrange of the Rocky Mountains. They run from southern Colorado to northern New Mexico. I hike or ride a horse in them most days, and when there isn’t snow on the ground the earth is a blood red color.
At 57 years old, I feel like I’ve returned to the beauty and rhythms of nature.
One evening getting ready for bed, my husband Ron said,
“You should write about your ‘bed of nails' mat. As much as you love that thing, everyone else may too.”
He was talking about my Spoonk acupressure mat.

Sam’s Pumpkin Soup for November issue of Houston Family Magazine
I like the idea of serving this pumpkin root vegetable soup in the actual pumpkin on our Thanksgiving table.
As we are all spending more time at home these days, let’s dedicate some energy into our dwellings and create a little cherished space. Whether you live in a chic apartment amidst the business of a city, an expansive country house surrounded by acres of land or a dreamy bungalow on the beach—home is where the heart is. And, if this is true, where does the soul live?
I just got off the phone with my sister, Lisa. She is the Chief Nursing Officer for the University of Kansas Health System St Francis Campus—which means her role asks her to oversee about 700 staff.
On a recent trip to California, to celebrate the girls’ birthday, unexpected experiences appear. Allie is finishing up a two-year program studying depth psychology. Sarah and I join her at the end of one of her sessions to take a few days of R&R, and start 2020 in a fresh and inspiring way.
Over a glass of champagne, the three of us make a rough plan of what our three days in California will hold. We all agree — time together, in nature, along with good food and wine are the top of our list.
DECLUTTER. ORGANIZE. LIVE JOYFULLY.
These simple words are the tagline. Don’t they just sound lovely to say out loud?
For me, yoga is much more than the time spent on the mat. Twenty years ago when I came to know yoga, I went to a weekly Wednesday morning class. I quickly began to notice that Wednesdays were a good day for me.
A master of yoga, B.K.S. Iyengar, says that “the light that yoga sheds on life is something special. It is transformative. It does not change the way we see things; it transforms the person who sees. It brings knowledge and elevates it to wisdom.”
how to be intuitive
As many of you know, I love to follow the moon cycles. In my daily journal, I record where the moon is in its monthly rotation. When I follow the cycles, I can be more aware of a new Moon (begin again), waxing Moon (building energies), full Moon (surf the wave), or waning Moon (revision energies), and also be more compassionate with myself and others during high-intensity lunar periods, such as a full Moon or eclipses.
During our hour together, we'll discuss what's happening in your life, and I'll share practical tools to support you. These include simple meditation techniques and journaling or automatic writing to help you tap into your own discernment and step into your power for greater clarity and decision-making.
Heartache is real and deep. An emptiness rests inside my heart, a longing for what once was.
A tiny ball of energy wrapped in fur, Milly entered our lives and quickly captured our hearts. Sensitive to noise and people, she responded more to actions of love than words, embodying a beautiful blend of fierceness and gentleness. An athletic 90 lb Chesapeake Bay Retriever, she thrived in water, deftly retrieving anything we tossed her way. She was in her element in the rivers, lakes, and streams of northern New Mexico and the Texas hill country.
Milly was remarkably human-like, her eyes seemed to pierce my soul. Her presence within our family brought us all comfort and peace. She was very capable of communicating her needs in her way. A lover of food, swimming and cuddling. Happiest with one foot in the water and the other on land, living between two worlds. Her last years were spent at our small ranch, where she roamed freely and swam laps in a sparkling pool we fondly called “Milly’s pool.” She was in heaven.
Sadly her final months were painful, to crippling arthritis and a tumor that made daily movement a challenge. Her love remained fierce, but her body was giving out.
On her final day, she rested in her favorite spot by the garage door. We sat together, watching a gentle rain fall, and somehow we both knew this was our peaceful moment to say goodbye.
The house feels empty now. Her energy is gone.
Yesterday my husband Ron and I were driving a stretch of highway that crossed the Pecos River taking in a stunning view of New Mexico’s landscape.
As quickly as it came, it was gone.
Out of nowhere a large white majestic heron flew across our windshield. As I tightly clutched the steering wheel my initial thought was, “Oh No, this bird is going to die”. Then just as quickly as it blocked my view for a moment, it was gone. I felt a little stunned and then overwhelmed with emotion and started to cry. What just happened?

Something quite ordinary and yet extraordinary happened today. A sign from above, an Earth angel appeared.
Today marks a special day, a day to honor dad. As my readers are mostly comprised of mothers, it feels important to call out a special honoring today, to our fathers.
This morning, my husband was celebrated with Facetime chats and a special dinner planned for him.
The stone-carved Owl above sits on my desk and came from one of our favorite places in Santa Fe, Keshi. Keshi (kay-SHE) is the traditional greeting of the Zuni Pueblo people who live in a stunningly beautiful part of western New Mexico.
While taking a swim the other day a wise beautiful turtle swam up to say hello. He came so close, it felt obvious he had an important message to deliver
Ron took me to lunch by boat last weekend. I love being on the water and always feel a bigger picture perspective on life cruising across the lake. After lunch we stopped for a swim, and chose a quiet place near the limestone cliffs.
Calm quiet space within. Follow your intuition.
I think we should get into geodes, my mom says. She always has the next idea, whether it’s our jewelry design, or a retreat location. It’s as if her vision comes from the source of divine energy she taps into. I always get shivers down my spine when we are on to something. If we feel stuck on a certain project, Elizabeth finds a way to break through.
About fourteen years ago, we drove through a tiny strip of a town chiseled out of red rocks in the middle of no where, and vowed we would return one day. Last week our family took that trip back to Moab, UT.
The first night in Africa we stayed in a hotel in Nairobi as we arrived too late (3 of 4 flights) to continue traveling on. That night my dream was vivid. I woke up thinking was this for real or was I dreaming?
In my dream I met a male lion in the garden.
A recent summer’s adventure began in a little thatched roof surf shop nestled into powder white sand next to the turquoise Caribbean sea.
Nervous and jittery I sat down in the vet’s sterile exam room. We knew things weren’t good. A wave of emotion came over me. Not a Tsunami-like feeling– it was more like a slow and steady thunderstorm rolling in to break the tension in the air. What if my thirteen-year-old companion’s life was about to end?
