Tending the Soul and Sacred Space

The last few weeks of this sweet summer season are shifting. Wearing a sweater in the morning and lighting a fire to warm the chilly evenings signal that the whispers of autumn are approaching.

This summer, I tended to my soul. For the first time in a long time, I took a pause.

I set an intention to create a summer dedicated to doing exactly what I felt like doing—an experiment. What could happen? These past summer days, I mostly longed to spend time outdoors—by myself or with family and friends.

Finding the rhythm

Moving with the flow of each summer day wasn’t easy at first. It took a while to trust the feeling, like I was a teeter-totter finding its balance. It taught me to slow down and feel my way through the day. To take a page from my book, Language of the Soul, as a tether, to redirect my energies and to bring my attention back to a daily affirmation. AFFIRM: I honor my sacred space.

A balancing act

My days began to feel more in balance. Whether it was a hike followed with yoga and meditation, a grocery store run, arranging flowers for the dinner table, to-do-list errands, decorating our home, paying bills, creating a meal with family and friends or reading a book in the hammock— everything felt easier, more in the flow— a connection to ease and grace and something much bigger than myself, as if being guided and supported. A calm confidence.

This summer season dedication brought a renewal. A truth I have known, but now, it is crystal clear: We all hold the power to discern and pay attention to what and where we place the value of our time and energy. Our soul’s true longings.

Sacred Space Emerges

This soul tending is a prescription I cannot recommend enough. Through this summer’s re-set of quiet calm space, clarity arrived. Sacred Space within and without is always something I have honored and now more than ever new ideas are percolating. To create a space that feels good, a place where we find it easier to think, dream and get in touch with the best part of ourselves and our family.
