Media Tour (leg 4)

Finishing the tour
I am tired. Similar to how I feel after a long day of hiking…physically exhausted but happy to reach the top. Now, I can gingerly sit back, relax and with a sense of satisfaction for my effort, admire the view. I am back home from my last leg- Phoenix, Seattle and Sacramento. Relishing being with my family and sleeping in my own bed. It has been quite a journey. I am grateful for the opportunity. The chance to share my passion of healthy living.

People along the way
For me, one of the highlights on this tour across America, was meeting so many interesting people. So many different kinds of people…TV hosts, producers, cameramen, bellhops, taxi drivers, media escorts. As I see it, this tour came with experiences for me to learn and grow through. And it was fun to listen to people’s stories and take it all in.
Here is a small glimpse of who I met along the way. The quiet, observing camera man who sees every angel of life through his lens. The producer who talks to three people on her headset while shaking my hand and giving me details such as, “we go live in 10 minutes, stand here,” or “smile, we are going to do a shot of you and your book cover for a teaser.” The TV host whose invitation to be on the show came because of her personal belief and dedication to healthy living. The hungry homeless guy, who during the segment set up in Sacramento (we were filming outside) asked if he could eat the chicken fajita salad after the show. The consciences hotel room cleaning lady who mailed me my forgotten cardigan.

A few more…
The Indian, Hispanic, Asian taxi driver (all of them always want to know what I am doing in their city) and when I tell them I talk about healthy living …they tell me their health stories.
The inventor, sitting next to me on one of my many airplane rides, told me about his 80 year old girlfriend who has been seeing UFOs.
And last but not least the numerous media escorts, all with interesting stories, one a fellow nurse and another a fellow writer. All strangers who became my “motherly” escort in their picking up and delivering of me to where I needed to be, parting with hugs and well wishes.

My final thoughts…
For me, this media tour has most definitely been a spiritual journey. Challenging and strengthening me from the inside out. Giving me new fresh eyes of appreciation for all of those ordinary everyday things I never think about. My own personal space and privacy. My husband’s companionship, my children’s goodnight kisses, home-cooked meals shared over the conversation of our family’s day, to name but a few. All of these simple things in my life. I had become so accustom to them, I never thought about how much I enjoyed them. Until they weren’t there. My tour experience also brought along a healthy boost of self-confidence. Knowing that I jumped in the deep end and came out swimming. I maneuvered through unknown territory, found the right path and gained some experience in the world of television.

In a nutshell
The definition of anthropology seems a good place to finish. Anthropology: the study of humankind. You must throw yourself into an unknown world to truly know your own.
