Who doesn’t want a healthy happy child? How best to achieve that goal is the real mystery. Stuck between prescriptive medical guides and a tangle of unfamiliar alternate therapies, what’s a mom to do? Elizabeth Irvine has the answer.

Borrowing from ancient wisdom and building from a scientific base

As a former ICU nurse and devoted practitioner of complementary medicine and yoga, Elizabeth has based her entire career on bridging the gap between traditional Western medicine and alternate practices in search of whole health and wellness. Borrowing from ancient Eastern wisdom, building from a solid scientific base, and adding a good dash of a mother’s common sense, Healthy Mother, Healthy Child offers solutions for every family. In this comforting, easy-to-follow guide, Elizabeth tackles topics from childhood obesity to calming techniques for children to ways your family can go “green,” offering practical tips and a positive philosophy that will help your entire family build physical and emotional health from the inside out.

Andrew Weil, M.D., best-selling author of Spontaneous Healing, says,

“I am always pleased when I find others who are passionate about providing an integrative approach to health care which encompasses body, mind and spirit.”

Miriam Peskowitz, author of Daring Book for Girls and host of PBS’ “Daring Kids” says,

“For everyone caught in the daily scramble-and-spin, here’s a calm and lilting guide to achievable stress-busting, wellness and health.”

Do you know that feeling, the kind that only happens every now and then, when you meet someone that makes you stop and say, wow– now that’s an amazing mom.

One special drop in a shower of women
Last week I met one. We were at the Mom2summit social media conference, and believe me there were plenty of women who had a lot of really cool stuff going on ( and I enjoyed getting to know all of them) but, in this shower full of women there was one special drop that hit me just right. One mom, that really touched me. She wasn’t up speaking on a panel or being photographed as a “blogess”– her quiet persona as an observer, as the conference’s content was something she already understood. She had mastered the task of doing all she could do to make a living.

A feeling that ripples through me
Single moms have always held a special place in my heart. I love my role as a mother, and the honest truth is some days I don’t really know how I would cope without the support and camaraderie provided by my husband. And so, for me watching a single mom in action, knowing all she has to do without that built-in-support, always creates a “wow” sensation, a feeling of admiration that ripples through me in awe of all they do solo.

Left her job to care for her handicapped daughter
This single mom (who started her motherhood journey at the tender age of fifteen) is not only a proud mother of three, one of her children is handicapped. As her disabled child’s challenges moved to a place that required her to be cared for through out the day, this mom left her employment outside of the home and entered the world of social media so she could work from home and care for her daughter.

One in a Million Mom
The connection happened as things do when you try and do good. Through the generosity of Weil Baby, and as my role as their educational partner I was allowed to give-away one free ticket to Erica Mueller. Erica, a wonderful mom and web designer introduced me to her roommate at the conference. Let me introduce you to my new friend, team member, and inspiration for my new feature, One in a Million Mom, Dwan Perrin.

Do you know a One in a Million Mom?
Let me hear from you. What do you think about Dwan’s story. Do you know a mom who is unique? Someone you feel is special in her ability to be a mom? Tell me her story. Send me your One in a Million Mom submission. I will regularly feature a One in a Million Mom and do my very best to support her along her motherhood journey.

Wow. What a meca of mom bloggers! Over the past few days I enjoyed my first-ever social media conference here in Houston. Mom’s came in from all over the United State. All kinds of passions, all kinds of people, with one thing in common. Social Media. Mom2Summit

Clearing the Mental Clutter

My panel discussion talked about Clearing the Clutter and my topic specifically was how to clear your mental clutter . Do you fee overwhelmed with day-to-day living? Too many tasks and not enough time? Would you like to feel joyful, have more energy and clarity? Everyday?

If you weren’t sitting in on my panel. Here are my best tips:

1. Live in the Present Moment. Practice focusing your attention on the here and now. What you are doing at this very moment. It’s as simple as allowing myself to feel my fingers tapping on my keyboard, enjoying the scent of my freshly brewed coffee and feeling a sense of joy in writing about what I love.

2. Set your Intention. Decide what is important to you in your life. Make a list and focus on these things everyday. Soon enough things begin to shift, and people, things, commitments begin to re-organize all on their own! You will find yourself spending more time doing the things that matter to you and spending more time with people you truly enjoy.

3. Dedicate your Energy. Once you make the decision about what is important to you. Dedicate your energy every day to focusing on these things.

This practice is incredibly simple. Not always easy. But, I promise if you take the time to allow these ideas to filter into your life– it is worth every ounce of your attention.

Let me hear your comments. Your ideas and suggestions may be the perfect answer for another.
